How to Get Paid to Build Your List

Posted on June 7th, 2010 by Jeff Gardner

It was my birthday on Sunday (June 6th) and to celebrate, I dug up 2 valuable list-building resources to share with you.

Here’s the Scoop:

In August 2007, I held a $5,995-per-seat, 3-day seminar in Dallas, Texas to teach my step-by-step marketing blueprints. I recently stumbled onto a snippet of video I originally posted on YouTube from this event (in November ’07) that shows a really cool marketing test that generated some “hands-free” income while I built my mailing list.

I was kind of surprised to see the video has 5,791 views (as I’m writing this).

Since my last video (“Behind The Secret Door…“) was on the importance of building a list, I thought you might enjoy seeing an actual “Case Study” of how I build my own list.

In this video, you’ll see a step-by-step process for building your list AND making money at the same time. Best of all, I show you how you can do this even WITHOUT a product of your own. (Pretty slick.)

Click play to watch me explain this marketing tactic:

Now, do you want to know how to put this technique into action, step-by-step?

If so, here’s a second resource to get you started:

FREE Report >>> “How to Get Paid to Build Your Mailing List”

Inside this 16-page PDF report titled “How to Get Paid to Build Your Mailing List”, I’ll show you the exact 11-step system for using the technique I revealed on the video. If you want to know how to build your list AND get paid, download the PDF report below and put it into action.

Thanks for the great content! The information was presented very clearly and concisely.

Perhaps I try to make things more difficult than they are, but I have a question about piecing this concept with other marketing. I have niche blogs that direct folks to affiliate products through either banners or links. My thought is to add my own squeeze page to gather names and then direct them to the sales page (blog -> my squeeze -> sales). My concern is that the customer is likely to be annoyed by my squeeze page. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

      Hey Dean,

      Thanks for the comment.

It all depends on what your sales page promises them. In some instances, you may have to get and/or create a piece of valuable content that you give to the person who opts-in, instead of just re-directing them to a sales page.

For example, let’s say that you’re promoting a “Dog Training” product. You might write (or hire someone to write) a small 5-page report on the “One Sure-Fire Trick that Will Keep Your Dog From Jumping On People – Guaranteed!”

First, this now gives your prospect an incentive to give their name/email. It’s a fair trade. Value for Value.

Second, you’re pre-qualifying your prospects. If they don’t want this 1 item, it’s not likely that they’re a good prospect for your paid product. So if you do lose some prospects, it’s probably the worst prospects. (You’re using your squeeze page to sift/sort the best prospects from your time wasters.)

Plus, this now positions you as an expert. So when you “Recommend” a particular “Dog Training Product”, your prospect is more likely to purchase.

And you can do this in any niche.

In my example, I was able to get away without offering a free piece of content – because the “money-making” desire is to strong, someone will give their name/email just to find out what the secret is behind the money-making concept. However, giving free content in exchange for an email is a great way to increase your opt-ins and make your prospects happy.

      Hope that helps!

      Best,
      Jeff

Heya¡my very first comment on your site. ,I have been reading your blog for a while and thought I would completely pop in and drop a friendly note. . It is great stuff indeed. I also wanted to ask..is there a way to subscribe to your site via email?

  10. Chin Foshay says:

I can’t believe you gave that away. I’ve paid good money for stuff that wasn’t half that good. I downloaded the report and I’m going to place an ad. I never got started because I didn’t have a product and didn’t know how to make one. But I like how you show how to make money without even needing a product. Good stuff.

    • Jeff Gardner says:

Well, it won’t make you millions – but most people I talk to would be happy with an extra $1,000 to $2,000 a month. And with this method, you can make it – without a product, customer service, refund hassles, etc. Simply become an affiliate… use the marketing system in the report… and make some sales.

Best of all, once you have a list, you can send them other affiliate offers on a regular basis – and generate even more income.

Glad you liked the report. :)

      Best,
      Jeff

Friend of mine recommend me to visit your website, This is just what I was looking for. Wondered why I never made any money. Now I realize I have no list. Thank you very much

    • Jeff Gardner says:

LOL! Yep, it’s rarely the product or offer. It’s usually whether you have a responsive list or not.

Case Study: When I first started capturing my list (unfortunately, it took me a few years to realize the importance of creating a database of BUYERS), I only had about 287 customers on my list.

I sent them a $997 offer via mail (this was before the Internet) – and I made over 100 sales @ $997 each. I mailed less than 300 pieces of mail and generated over $100,000 in sales. That’s the power of creating a responsive list.

By the way, that brings up a point: It’s not the QUANTITY of the list that’s important. It’s the QUALITY of the list. I can make more money with a quality list of 500 than someone with a poor quality list of 5,000.

      Thanks again for the comment.

      Best,
      Jeff

wow. thx for the report. i’ll check this out and let you know how it works out for me.

    thx

    • Jeff Gardner says:

Thanks. Yeah, definitely test it out. You can even just test 1 ad in 1 publication (I suggest 1-inch display ads over classified ads) – and then see how that goes. For a few hundred bucks – you could be building a list and making some nice affiliate commissions.

      Let me know your results.

      Best,
      Jeff

  16. hi jeff

well i have just read your 16pge pdf excellent and watched the video and think its a real and easy enough system to set up that i will try it out.the only problem may be placing the ads and setting up a auto responder messages however if i choose surveys online niche i can copy yours and just change to suit etc

    great post and technique

    thanks
    peter mcgrath

    • Jeff Gardner says:

      Thanks, Peter.

Actually, setting up an autoresponder is super easy. Do it once – and you’ll have that skill for life.

(By the way, the autoresponder system I recommend – http://www.wealthworldtouch.com – has free training videos and guides, plus unlimited free customer support – so even if you “get stuck” setting up your autoresponder, help is right there.)

Also, placing ads: A breeze. I just got a copy of Home Business Advertiser in the mail – and they have all sorts of advertising specials to get you started. Plus, they can even give you advice on copy, color, layout, etc.

If it’s copywriting you’re not too sure about, my friend – Russ von Hoelscher – is a master copywriter who can write a 1-inch display ad for you. Here’s his contact info:

      http://www.rvhfreegate.com/RVHCopywriting.htm

Every challenge is just an opportunity to learn something new.

      Thanks again!

      Best,
      Jeff
