You Must Get DESPERATE!

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Tony Robbins, the world’s Personal Power Coach, has a quote:

“In life, you need either INSPIRATION or DESPERATION”.

Over the years, I’ve met many millionaires who started with absolutely nothing – or LESS than nothing – and made many millions working for themselves.

Why? Desperation!

They were DESPERATE for a better life.

They were DESPERATE for more.

They were DESPERATE for freedom, both financial and personal.

They were DESPERATE to leave their mark before leaving this life.

Now, it’s not mandatory that you be DESPERATE.

You can also be INSPIRED.

But out of all of the successful people I’ve met over the last 24 years, I’d guess that only ONE of them was “inspired” to start his business and work for himself. His name is Mike, he was a very successful, highly-paid airline pilot, and his life was incredibly comfortable. However, he was INSPIRED to add onto what he already loved, which was flying. Last time I talked to Mike at a seminar we were speaking at, he was still flying for the airline – and making piles of money, working for himself.

So you’ve got Mike, who was INSPIRED.

And thousands more who were DESPERATE.

And they used this DESPERATION as the sheer force they needed to take the massive action necessary to build a multi-million dollar fortune.

Now, for the B-I-G Question:

Are YOU Desperate?

Hold on. Before you answer, there’s more to being “desperate” than just wanting more. There are MILLIONS of people all over this world who want more. They crave more. They hunger for more.

More money. More freedom. More control. More fun. More happiness.

More whatever.

BUT – they’re not “desperate enough” to do what it takes to get up off the couch, flip off the boob tube, and read a book… watch a video… sign up for a seminar… or take the necessary action to create a life of “more”.

They’re in the “Uncomfortable Comfort” zone.

Basically, they’ve grown comfortable with being uncomfortable.

And because it’s just “uncomfortable” and not out-and-out “painful”, well… they can deal with it.

Do NOT Fall Into This Trap!

Life shoots by faster and faster with each passing day. I just turned 39 in June – and I can hardly believe I’m almost 40. Seems like just yesterday I was a kid, trying to figure stuff out. Now I’m an adult (well, sorta) and have a kid of my own. And with every year, the time speeds up.

So please get this if you have yet to achieve your life’s goals:

If you’re not desperate enough yet to get yourself to take action…

GET DESPERATE!

Since it isn’t likely that inspiration is going to sneak up on you and smack you in the head with the answer to your problems, you need to use “desperation” to get yourself to move.

WHAT are you unhappy about right now?

What about that makes you unhappy?

What could be better in your life?

What do you really want out of life, before you shuffle off this mortal coil?

What do you want to experience?

Who do you want to contribute to?

Get into that uncomfortable place – and let it move you.

Now, this isn’t about making yourself feel “bad”.

It’s about feeling the pain of not having the life you want – and then using that pain as an action signal.

If you feel pain in your head, you might get up and get an aspirin.

If you feel a pain in your body that’s severe, you might call a doctor – or even 911.

Pain creates action.

Unfortunately, if the pain is slight, no action is taken.

People let the days, weeks, months, and years pass them by… living a so-so life they’re generally unhappy with… and end up on their death bed, wondering where all of the time went.

I’ll tell you where it’s going:

It’s slipping by, right as you’re reading this, wondering what you’re going to do about the life you truly want to live.

So if you’re stuck… if you want more but haven’t taken action…

GET DESPERATE!

Then – go out and DO something about it.

And if you slip back into those old patterns of being “comfortably uncomfortable”, ramp up the discomfort again – and take more action.

And consistent action is the key to our success.

As Tony Robbins says:

“In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.”

What is your true potential?

Watch this video.

The man in this video is world freediving champion Guillaume Nery.

“Freediving” is where you dive to incredible depths on a single breath. No Scuba equipment.

In the video, he walks to the edge of the world’s deepest underwater sink hole (638 feet) – and jumps.

Amazing.

What’s even more amazing is your untapped potential.

YOU have the ability… the potential… to do similar mind-boggling things.

Maybe it’s not freediving.

But you have the potential to create a life that others would find amazing.

It doesn’t come easy.

It may not come cheap.

But in the end, it’s worth it.

Are you living up to your full potential right now?

If not, what will you do today to transform your life and make it amazing?
