A Little Off Topic…

This is going to be a little “off-topic” today - and a little philosophical (okay, A LOT philosophical), so feel free to skip it if you wish.

Last night, I was watching the movie “Venus” with Peter O’Toole. Growing up, Peter O’Toole was one of my favorite actors. He starred in Lawrence of Arabia, The Man of La Mancha, A Lion in Winter, and My Favorite Year (one of my favorites).

In high school at age 16, I read that Peter O’Toole was playing Henry Higgins on Broadway (in Pygmalion) - and my Aunt agreed to take me to New York to see the play. It was great - and he was great, too.

I haven’t seen Peter O’Toole in many movies recently, even though I know he does a part here and there. But seeing him in Venus gave me a shock.

He’s frail, gaunt, and not the Peter O’Toole I remember.

And, in checking Wikipedia, I discovered that Peter O’Toole is 76 years old. This hit me in a couple of different ways.

First, my father is about Peter O’Toole’s age - and slowly dying of skin cancer. He’s homebound in Tucson, Arizona - and spends his days in his recliner, watching football. I traveled to visit him and my Mom over Christmas - and I can’t explain how difficult it is to watch someone you love slowly deteriorate. He’s frail, gaunt, and seems to have a real sense that time is short.

The second thing:

I got a smack in the side of my head that life flies by too quickly.

Not many years ago, Peter O’Toole was a young man, shooting the film Lawrence of Arabia. Today, he’s 76.

It seems like just the other day, I was a naive teenager - just 16 years old - sitting in the theater, watching him portray the character of Henry Higgins.

Today, I’m 36.

Where did those 20 years go?

And the older I get, the faster the time flies.

What’s my point?

Simply this:

Life is way, way too short.

One day you’re in your prime, living your life. And the next, 20… 30… 40 years have flown by - and you’re left asking yourself, “Is this all there is? Have I lived my life to it’s fullest?”

Now, I must admit that I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my life.

Yes, I did go through some incredibly hard times. If you’ve ready my free newsletter (the first post on this blog), you already know about my near-poverty situation - where I lived in a mouse-infested trailer in a dangerous, run-down mobile home park.

Of course, I’ve left a lot out. (For example, selling my blood plasma to get cash to go to the movies.) But to be honest, I don’t care to re-live those memories more than I have to.

What I DO want to do is live my best life today.

In 2008, I have a ton of projects going on - because my goal is to generate $10 million in sales.

However, I do NOT want to be a workaholic, working 60 to 80 hours a week… just so I can end up in my 70’s or 80’s with a big pile of money.

Money, to me, is NOT the end result. It’s NOT the outcome. It’s merely a tool to help us LIVE OUR LIVES!

When I was growing up, my Dad always said he wanted to go to Hong Kong.

That was his dream. To travel back to Hong Kong, which he’d been to once during the Korean War.

However, he put it off… and put it off… because he couldn’t get time away from work and he didn’t have the money. Today, it’s an impossible dream he’ll never achieve.

I don’t want that to happen to me.

I want to live my life now - while I have the energy to do it.

But let’s be honest: It’s not just about having the energy.

It’s about being able to AFFORD the life you want - without creating a mountain of credit card debts.

That’s why so many people keep searching for a way to become financially free. Because they understand that financial freedom gives you the power to live the life you want… on your terms.

For example…

I just read on Internet marketer Jason James’ blog that he’s taking a weekend trip to Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia - to go skiing and snowboarding.

Yanik Silver takes tons of vacations and trips - and a few years ago, even ran his business from the beach during the summer.

I know many direct response marketers who travel all over the country and the world, some spending entire months on vacation.

I’ve seen pictures of or visited their beautiful homes, ridden in their luxury cars, and I’ve seen the pure joy these marketers have. The newfound passion they have for life.

Personally, I’ve also been very blessed. I’ve made enough money to buy the home of my dreams, I paid cash for my luxury car, and I’ve been able to take great vacations all across the United States. And, in 2008, I’m finally getting up the nerve to travel internationally - with my first trip to Europe.

I’m not saying this to brag.

I’m saying this to make a point.

I know of too many people who come to the end of their lives… wishing they had been able to experience more of life… but felt they couldn’t, because of one simple thing:

Not enough money.

After all, if you’re working 40 hours a week (or more) to make ends meet… if you’re having to scrimp and save to make car payments on a car that’s just “good enough”… or if you’re not able to travel where you want - or in the style you want… I don’t believe that’s living life to the fullest.

I didn’t choose to do whatever it took to make money because I wanted a pile of money.

I didn’t focus all of my energy on creating financial freedom, because I wanted to be able to brag that I was “a millionaire”.

I wanted the money, because I saw my family and friends struggling - and not enjoying the lives they really wanted - and I vowed that would NOT happen to me.

I vowed that I would do whatever it took to become financially independent, so that I could live a full, happy life - free of money worries, free of a boss, and free of struggle.

And - through a lot of research, work, networking, and study - I did it.

I’m happy I did, because life is rushing by.

(Is life rushing by you, too?)

My point is this:

Life is too amazing to live it struggling to get by.

It’s over way too soon - and the time to take action is NOT when you’re on your deathbed or close to it.

The time to take action is now.

Today.

If you don’t have the lifestyle you want… if you’re not fully happy with your life… if you know that you deserve more and are capable of more… the time to take action is now.

That could mean investing in the Millionaire in Training Blueprint Package.

The system I reveal in that package has allowed me to make millions of dollars over the years.

But more importantly, it’s been the key to giving me the chance to live the life I always dreamed of. Right now, it’s giving me the opportunity to live my life the way I want to.

Do something… today, tomorrow, next week, next month… to create true financial freedom.

Don’t let anyone stop you. Not the naysayers… not your friends or family who don’t believe in your quest… not the news… not even your lack of money or experience. Let nothing stand in your way.

Push forward, because the clock is ticking for all of us.

And the sooner you reach your goal of achieving financial freedom, the sooner you can start developing and living the life you always wanted.

If you really want it, there IS a way.

I apologize for getting on my soapbox, but I always get a little reflective around the beginning of the new year. I think we often become complacent and let time pass without noticing - and next thing we know, we’re at the end. I never want to get complacent - and always try to push myself forward.

And I think if I can help just one person realize that the time to start living life is NOW… not 5 to 10 years from now - or worse yet, when it’s “too late”… well, I’ve done some good.

In my December 21st, 2007 blog post, I mentioned my mentor, “The $100 Million Dollar Man” - and that sparked a lot of emails. People wanted to know WHO he was and HOW he helped me.

So here’s the answer:

WHO is the $100 Million Dollar Man?

His name is T.J. Rohleder. He’s a phenomenally successful marketer in Kansas, with a real “rags to riches” story. This guy bought all of the “get-rich-quick” stuff he could get his hands on over the years, trying to find a way out of poverty and debt. He even tried his hand at starting a carpet cleaning business out of the back of an old 1983 Chevy Van. However, it never took off - so he finally sold that van… and used the cash (about $300 bucks) to place his first ad in a magazine. Well, long story short, that one ad was the start of a multi-million dollar empire. Today, T.J. has made over $113 million dollars - and he now owns his own wildly-successful marketing company.

HOW did he help me?

That’s a longer story than I can go into here. Needless to say, without T.J.’s help, advice, guidance… well, I wouldn’t be as successful as I am today. (By the way, I broke the $2 million dollar mark in 2007 - and we’re gunning for $10 million in 2008.)

Free Method #4

“Pricing Secrets They Don’t Want You To Know.”

This short video gives you some really great ideas for pricing your products. It’s not everything I covered in “pricing”, but there are some really cool strategies you’ll be able to use immediately.

One thing I wanted to respond to in this week’s blog post is an email I got regarding last week’s post about using psychology to increase sales.

Someone wrote me an email that said…

“I love what you have been posting on your blog, but this last post made me cringe. It sounds like you believe in using psychology to trick your customers to buy from you. Do you really believe that’s a good idea?”

The short answer is: It depends

Let me explain…

First, it’s important for you to understand that I only recommend using what I teach with absolutely phenomenal products that OVERDELIVER.

I personally refuse to sell ANYTHING that doesn’t give my customers 10 times the value of what they’re paying me.

If my customers pay me $100, I want to give them AT LEAST $1,000 worth of value. If they pay me $1,000, I want to give them AT LEAST $10,000 in value.

For example, when I held my 3-day seminar, I knew my attendees were paying a heavy price to be there. Each seat cost $5,995. Plus, they had to schedule time away from their friends and family… pay to fly to Dallas, Texas to attend the event (some from across the world)… and they had to sit and listen for 3 full days (and 2 evenings) to my training.

Because of that, I didn’t want to give them just 10 times their value, I worked for months before the event to give them 50 TIMES their value back.

Since I make that my goal… “Always Overdeliver”… I feel that it’s my duty to use whatever means I have to make sure my customers have the opportunity to get my products and services. If I don’t do whatever I can to help my customer get the products, services, advice, coaching, etc. that they need - to get the results they want in their lives - then I truly believe that I’m doing them a disservice.

My favorite Zig Ziglar quote is…

“You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

So if I have a product or service that will HELP my customers get what they want in life (more money, financial freedom, happiness, wealth, etc.), then it’s my duty to use my marketing techniques to move them toward purchasing these items. Because when I help them get what they want, I get what I want: An income that helps me support my lifestyle.

It’s a win/win situation.

If you have a product or service that you KNOW overdelivers… and really gives your customers the RESULTS they want… then you are doing yourself AND your customers a disservice if you’re not using EVERY MARKETING TECHNIQUE at your disposal to promote your product.

NOW…

IF you’re selling junk, you’d be a jerk for using the marketing methods I reveal to sell your junk.

And… to be honest… there are some jerks out there, doing just that.

But I’m not posting my methods for jerks.

(And I’m guessing you’re not a jerk) ;0)

I’m posting my methods for real, honest people - who want to make a great living - helping others, by providing products and services that deliver valuable results to their customers.

There’s no shame there. There’s nothing wrong with selling when you’ve got great stuff to sell.

The shame isn’t in the marketing techniques.

The shame is in selling garbage.

If you only sell high-quality products and services that will benefit your customers, then that gives you a new perspective: You should use EVERY marketing technique at your disposal to get your customers to buy from you. After all, if you know they’ll get the result they want from buying from you, you’re failing your customers by not getting them to buy.

Update: Millionaire In Training Blueprint & And “A Note From The $100-Million Dollar Man”

I’m getting a lot of great emails. A few still asking about the price. But overall, a positive response.

Note: I asked anyone interested in getting a copy to email me directly at support@wealthworld.com, so I’ll have a good idea of how many to get in stock. Plus… I also got a really great email from a guy I call…

The $100-Million Dollar Man!

Here’s why I call him that:

One of my long-time mentors is a guy who stumbled onto his own “blueprint” for making money back in the late 1980’s. He had worked in a factory on an assembly line for a while… then tried to start his own carpet cleaning business… but nothing really worked out for him. In 1988, he stumbled onto a portion of a blueprint similar to the one that I found and have pieced together over the years. (Some of it I even pieced together from this multi-millionaire.)

That first year… 1988… my mentor sold his 1983 Chevy Van - that he was using to haul his carpet cleaning equipment from house to house - to get $300 to place his first direct response ad.

That first year, 1988, my mentor made $295,568.50.

Since then, he’s never made less than $1 million a year.

I have a book he sold in late 1996, which shows his earnings from July 1988 to July 1996. Here they are:

1988 - $295,568.50
1989 - $1,477,843.35
1990 - $2,633,448.78
1991 - $4,929,563.35
1992 - $2,711,079.64
1993 - $2,065,146.22
1994 - $3,947,975.53
1995 - $4,019,152.83
1996 - $2,497,751.70 (January to July)

That’s $24,577,530.01 in 9 years.

Since then, he’s made even more money.

A few years ago, he broke the $100 million dollar mark. That’s when I started calling him “The $100 Million Dollar Man”. Last time I talked to him, he’s made a total of $113 million in sales.

For the Holidays, I sent my mentor a copy of the DVD’s of my Millionaire in Training Seminar as a gift. When he got it, I got a quick email from him. Here’s a quick excerpt from the email I received from him, after he got the DVD’s & example manual:

“I received your course last night. To say I’m EXCITED about watching YOU IN ACTION would be an understatement! And I am HONORED and HUMBLED and GRATEFUL that you would use so many of my sales letters in your examples. It’s MORE than just EGO, Jeff…. I have put a lot of myself into this business and the money was NEVER the main motive.”

Then, a few days later, I got another email. He’d watched a bit of the DVD’s - and wanted to give me an update. (I asked him what he thought so far.)

“If you were even the SLIGHTEST BIT NERVOUS before or at the start of this event — there’s NO WAY AT ALL I could tell it — and I was watching you closely.

ONE MORE THING: YOU DID A GREAT JOB, JEFF!!! This is a product that I will TREASURE!!! Can’t wait to see all of it!”

I’m very proud of those emails… from someone who has helped me throughout the years.

It’s always nice to have some validation that you’re doing “good stuff” from the people who helped you get started. :0)

Free Method #3

Profiting from Psychology!

On this video clip, you’ll see The Top 3 Books I Recommend EVERY Marketer Read. If you haven’t read these books… if they’re not in your library… that’s your next step. Get them!

What are these books about? Psychology.

Not “ho-hum”, snooze-fest psychology. Really cool MARKETING psychology.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say that I want to sell an information product for $2,500. Let’s agree, for this example, that the information is easily worth $2,500. Now, if I just SPRING the price on you…

“It’s $2,500!”

…you’re going to have one reaction to it. That reaction might be:

“Wow! $2,500. That’s a lot of money. I was only hoping to spend $1,500. I’m not sure if I can afford $2,500. Hmmm… Maybe I’d better look for other alternatives.”

Now, let’s add a dash of psychology to this. A concept called “Comparison”.

I’m not going to change the price of the information product at all. I’m just going to COMPARE it to something more expensive. For example…

“The information I reveal in my course is the same type of information that you’d get at a 5-day, $10,000-a-seat seminar. With those seminars, not only do you end up spending $10,000 for your seat, but you’ve also got to pay to fly to the event and pay even more for your hotel room, rental car, and food during your stay. Add up your costs - and attending one of these seminars could easily cost you $12,000 or more. (And that doesn’t include the pain of dealing with busy airports, congested highways, and having to be away from your family.)

However, with this course, you can get the exact same information that you’d get at these lengthy, high-dollar seminars - but without the time-consuming and expensive travel. You can discover everything you need to know from the comfort of your own home.

Plus, you won’t spend $12,000 for this information. You won’t even spend $10,000. And while I’ve been told that I’d be crazy to sell it for HALF of that, I’m not even going to offer it for $5,000. If you take action right now and grab my course, you can get it rushed to your front door for the low price of only $2,500!”

Now the price didn’t change. In the first example AND the second example, the price is still $2,500.

However, in the second example, I’m comparing the information product with a live seminar. I’m comparing the cheaper course with a much more expensive seminar. So I start out explaining a very HIGH priced item… showing you how expensive it is to attend these seminars… and then it appears that I DISCOUNT the price… by dropping it from $12,000… all the way to $2,500.

But it never really dropped. I never said the price was $12,000. I never said it was $10,000 or $5,000. I only mentioned those prices, because I compared the information to a live seminar. That way, when I finally tell you the price, YOU are COMPARING the $2,500 price against $12,000. And when you do that, it actually SEEMS cheaper.

Nothing has changed. Just your PERCEPTION of the price.

And this perception… that you’re getting a $12,000 item for $2,500… is just one psychological element that marketers use.

And it’s not difficult to implement. I’ve given you a little more elaborate example, but there are many, many ways to use this concept - plus other psychological concepts, including commitment, scarcity, urgency, and others - to increase your sales.

If you’d like to increase your sales, I highly recommend reading the books I recommend in this video. They’ll change how you think about making money and marketing for the rest of your life!

I’ve been getting emails asking if I’ll be speaking at any seminars in the new year. After taking a year off, I’ve decided to speak at very few, select seminars in 2008. I’ve recently been invited to speak at Russell Brunson’s February “Online & Offline Marketing” seminar in Salt Lake City in mid-February. Advanced Training Will Be Coming Soon

A quick update for those who have requested some sort of advanced training. I contacted my video editor to see how long it would take to edit down the DVD’s of my 3-day seminar - to make it a little more affordable than the $5,995 the attendees of the seminar paid to get them. I should have an answer by early next week. Plus, I’m getting pricing on what it would take to print my example/sample manual and a few of my “secret weapons” that have really helped me over the years.

Anyway, I’ll keep you updated here. Please note that I’ll always put the most up-to-date information on this blog. I’ve had quite a few people emailing, asking to be put on a special update list. I’ll try to have something like that, maybe in a week or so. But until then, just keep watching this blog and I’ll make sure you get the latest details. Survey Results Are In! More Training Coming Soon…

It’s pretty cool. If you haven’t used Survey Monkey to create and run a survey, you should give it a try. I’ve used it to come up with headlines, product ideas, and now - to see whether or not anyone is interested in MORE training on how to make over $1 million a year - working for yourself from home - using my simple, but extremely powerful marketing system.

Here are the results from the survey (below):

*** Looks like almost everyone wants the DVD’s of my $5,995-per-seat seminar. Hmmm… Well, we’ll see. I’ve only got a few copies left over from when we had them made for the seminar attendees. The main challenge I see is that seminar attendees got these free for paying $5,995 to attend the seminar, so if I did release the DVD’s, I’d either have to charge $5,995 or just release a small portion of them to keep the price reasonable.

Question: If I could honestly show you how to make $100,000 to $250,000 in the next 12 to 18 months - and then $500,000 to $1 million a year after that, consistently, what would that information be worth to you?

0-$999: 43.8%

$1,000 - $1,999: 19.8%

$2,000 - $2,999: 5.5%

$3,000 - $3,999: 2.3%

$4,000 - $4,999: 4.6%

$5,000 - $7,499: 3.7%

$7,500 - $9,999: 0.9%

$10,000 - $14,999: 3.2%

$15,000 - $19,999: 1.4%

$20,000 or More: 14.7%

This really surprised me. I already guessed that a large percentage of people would say $999 or less, but I wasn’t expecting that 56.1% of the people felt it should be priced at $1,000 or more. And what really surprised me was the 14.7% (the third highest choice) thought the information was worth $20,000 or more.

So that gives me the answers I needed: There is a demand for the exact step-by-step system I’m using to make over $1 million a year. Now I just have to figure out the best way to deliver that information - without making the attendees of my $5,995-per-seat seminar angry, but still give those who want it the FULL A-to-Z system.

I’ll figure something out in the next week or so and post it on here when I’ve got a better idea. I may have to deliver a severely edited down version of the DVD’s (to get it to a price lower than $5,995) and maybe give you only a portion of my swipe file & example manual. I dunno. I’ll brainstorm some ideas… talk to a few of the seminar attendees… and have an update here in a few days.

Until then, make sure you’ve sucked up all of the training I’ve posted so far. And watch Friday for another video. It’s short, but it’s an actual technique you can use to increase your profits instantly.

Plus, I just found a really, really cool segment from the DVD’s that will show you a proven method for making quick cash with no product and no mailing list. I’m thinking about launching this video and print instructions on how to use this method later in December. Free Method #1: The Secret to $1 Million a Year or More

Here’s the first clip from my $5,995-per-seat seminar.

It’s only about 3 minutes long - but if you really “get” the concept I’m explaining, you’ll make more money and have fewer customer service issues. It took me a few years to mentally believe that I could charge $297… $497… $997… $2,497… even $5,995 for products. But after a lot of testing and “trial and error”, I soon realized that inside any customer list is a small group of people who want your highest level of products or services. And, from my experience and the experiences of others, people who pay you $1,000’s of dollars for a seminar or product - are actually less likely to create problems for you - than someone who bought a $10 ebook.

Here’s another secret:

Let’s say that your goal is $1 million dollars a year.

You can actually create daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly goals that will help you reach your goals - based on your sales goals and the pricing of your products.

For example, if your products sell for an average of $500, you’d need 2,000 sales to reach your $1 million dollar goal. Not too bad. Divide 2,000 by the number of days in a year (365) - and you’ll discover that you need to make less than 6 sales a day - of your $500 product - to reach your goal. (Roughly 167 sales per month)

If you’re selling $1,000 products, you need to make less than 3 sales a day to reach your goal. (Roughly 84 sales per month)

With these numbers as a target, you can now work on crafting a marketing plan to make 3 sales or 6 sales a day. Of course, rarely will your sales be steady. On some days, you’ll make 1 sale and on other days, you’ll make 18. But using your “target” numbers, you’ll know the average sales you need to make each day, week, and month. And you can adjust your marketing efforts to create those sales.
You see, the key to making money is knowing this information. The reason most people never reach their financial goals is that the path seems murky and unclear. Once you start to see the path - and get some clear targets to reach - and understand how to reach them, you’ll be able to RUN toward your goals, instead of stumble slowly toward them.
